How To Value Magic The Gathering Cards
If you are going to sell some Magic the Gathering cards, it is important to know of the value of your cards before you start. Because you can know whether the cards you are dealing with worth quite lots of money or they are just worthless.
Obviously, the prices of cards vary every day.
Rare and Mythic Rare Cards
By their very definition, these cards are difficult to obtain, so tend to be higher in value. However, this does not guarantee a good value. Rare cards released in newer sets, their prices tend to vary from around 50c to $10, while Mythic Rares tend to have a range of around $1 to $50 or more.
If you plan to sell some rare or mythic rare cards, it’s advisable to consult a Magic the Gathering seller’s site to check approximate prices – note that these prices can be slightly inflated. The best advice is to check average selling prices for those cards on a site such a eBay.
Uncommon Cards
These cards are less popular than rares and mythic rares, and hence their prices are a bit low. You can expect to getting these cards at a price between $1 to $2.Generally speaking, most uncommon cards have little value, and are worth only a few cents. If you want to sell uncommon cards, I suggest selling them in play sets (4 copies of the same card) at a minimum, not in a larger bulk quantity (for example, 20 or 50 different in one lot).
Common Cards
Obviously, the common cards are numerous and can obtain easily; hence there is little value in them. It is not worth selling common cards individually, or even in play sets. If you want to sell commons, I suggest you selling these cards by the hundred or even thousand once. However, do not expect to get great profits from these cards.
This is a general guide to give you an idea of what you could expect from your cards. Apparently, there are exceptions to every rule, and the biggest variation lies in rare and mythic rare cards, so do your research before you start to sell. Another warning to note is that the oldest cards from sets such as Alpha and Beta have the greatest variation in value. Any old cards like this should be researched before beginning selling.
Hopefully, this guide will help you to learn the value in your Magic the Gathering cards before you begin; you can then put your effort into the most valuable cards.
